CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) - A Clovis man has been sentenced to life in prison plus six years for the 2007 killing of his mother's boyfriend.

Prosecutors say 25-year-old Albert Jose Ramirez was sentenced Wednesday.

A Curry County jury convicted Ramirez of first-degree murder and two counts of tampering with evidence last October after a week-long trial.

Ramirez was accused of going to his mother's home against a "no trespass" order and fatally shooting Eladio Robledo in the front yard on July 12, 2007.

Authorities say Ramirez fled the scene and was taken into custody three days later by Clovis police. They say he was found hiding in the bedroom of a friend's home.

Ramirez has been incarcerated since his arrest.
