Gov. shutdown delays tax filing season

Amarillo , TX - Even though the IRS won't start processing tax returns until January 31st, you may want to file now. 

Tax returns are being delayed due to the government shutdown last year. The delay won't only affect tax payers receiving their refund checks, it will also affect tax preparers receiving the money they get for filing the taxes.

It will also make tax preparers very busy because it will give them less time to do the same amount of work. "We're still going to process the same number of returns, it's just going to be in a shorter period of time, so it creates a large wave of people coming in at the same time, creating some very hectic days and longer wait times, just a little more stressful experience for everyone." says Jack Williams with Liberty Tax Service.

Williams tells us, you can help them and yourself out by coming in now to file your taxes so you don't get caught up in the wave of people coming after January 31st.

If you do file now then your taxes will be in line and ready for the IRS when they start processing them.
