New Mexico is eyeing a new plan to bring more tourism to the Land of Enchantment.
It comes on the heels of a new decision regarding marriage in the state. Now that same sex couples can legally wed in New Mexico, tourism in the state is trying to take full advantage.
A jump in tourism is being expected in the Land of Enchantment after a recent ruling to legalize same-sex marriages. Officials say a media blitz and several wedding expos for gay couples are expected in the coming months to help sell New Mexico as a wedding destination for same-sex pairs.
Resorts in cities like Taos report they've already booked rooms for weddings in the new year. The city's chamber of commerce says the town will run advertisements in major media markets to let same-sex couples know New Mexico now allows them to get married.
A tourism increase was not something that was really considered in the passing of this ruling. But tourism is already up in New Mexico and now with this push, is expected to jump even higher bringing on even more of revenue.
