Police vehicles and search helicopter in south Amarillo caused concerns for area's residents

Amarillo, TX - A number of police vehicles and a search helicopter in south Amarillo caused concern among the area's residents Friday afternoon.

Around 3:00 we began hearing a lot of scanner traffic about police activity in the area of 45th and Georgia. It wasn't long after we started getting phone calls and facebook comments on our page about a search helicopter flying low in that area.

When our crew arrived, we found the activity was actually two separate incidents that were unrelated. Two vehicles wrecked near the intersection of 46th and Fannin, ending up with one on its side. Police blocked off that area temporarily.

But it was around that time that the helicopter was spotting flying around that same area. Turns out, police were also trying to serve a felony warrant for forgery near the area of Dryan and Darrell, which is almost right around the corner from the site of the vehicle wreck, and Fannin Middle School.

The suspect involved ran from police, which led to a short police chase and the helicopter being called out. The suspect was caught shortly thereafter. No one was in any danger, and the helicopter was called off.
