Okla. gov. declares state of emergency for storm

Posted: Updated:

OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Gov. Mary Fallin has declared a state of emergency for all 77 Oklahoma counties because of the winter storm crossing the state.

The storm that began moving through the state Thursday is expected to bring several days of sub-freezing temperatures and cause dangerous road conditions and power outages.

Emergency management authorities recommended the declaration before the full brunt of the storm arrives.

The governor's order allows state agencies to make emergency purchases related to disaster relief and preparedness. It is also a first step toward seeking federal assistance should it be necessary.
