Xcel Energy could soon be passing on the cost of new high-voltage lines

Xcel Energy could soon be passing the cost of new high-voltage transmission lines on to its customers.

The energy company released a statement Monday saying it is seeking to add a charge to all Texas customers to cover part of the cost of a 173 million dollar project.

They say the project was built to improve the area's electricity infrastructure.

The proposed hike would translate into a monthly increase of 1.5 percent for residential customers.

If approved by the Public Utility Commission of Texas, the new charge would appear on your electricity bills beginning January 1st.
