Fire starts in east Amarillo scrap yard pile

Posted: Updated:

Amarillo, TX - Amarillo Fire Department was able to contain a fire that started in a scrap yard Thursday morning.

Officials say it started at around 11:00 at the Scrap Processing Company yard near Browning Street and Southeast 3rd Avenue.

They say a few small explosions rang out in the flames, which were building on top of a large pile of scrap metal, car parts and tires, but no one was injured.

Traffic in the area was temporarily diverted away from the heavy smoke, which began to build over nearby roadways.
