School bus crashes with car in northwest Amarillo

Amarillo, TX - A school bus was involved in a wreck with a car near the intersection of Tascosa Road and Coulter Drive Thursday morning.

Initial reports indicate that the driver of the car was taken to the hospital for their injuries... but no major injuries were reported from the bus.

Another school bus was sent to the location to pick up the passengers.

From the Amarillo Police Department:

Accident involving bus carrying AISD students at Tascosa and Coulter, no life threatening injuries.

On 11-21-13, at 12:01 PM, officers were sent to the intersection of Tascosa Road and N. Coulter on a traffic accident involving a First Student school bus transporting AISD students and another vehicle.

Officers determined that the school bus had been southbound, turning from Coulter to Tascosa Road.

A maroon Pontiac Grand Am was westbound on Tascosa Road (FM 1061) and the front of the Pontiac struck the left front area of the bus, just ahead of the driver's area.

The bus carried 41 children from de Zavala Middle School and the bus driver. The bus driver declined medical transport from the scene.

Officers said that 12 children, none with serious injuries, were transported to local hospitals.

The driver of the Pontiac, a HM 51 of Cactus, TX, was transported with non-life threatening injuries.

The incident is still under investigation and no citations have been issued at this time.
