Crime case round up

Amarillo, TX - There are new developments on a high profile criminal case in our area.

Those developments involve two murder trials and one appeal of a life sentence handed down a year ago today.

In June of 2012 jurors convicted Khalid Aldawsari of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction.

The former Texas Tech student was then sentenced in November.

Today we learned a hearing date for Aldawsari's appeal has now been set in the Fifth Circuit Court of Criminal appeals for December 5th.

The trial of accused murder Noe Torres is moving forward.

Today we spoke with officials with the 9th district court in Clovis and they say the official trial date will be June 23rd of 2014.

Torres is accused in the gang-related shooting death of Carlos Perez in 2005 before fleeing to Mexico until 2012.

And another man accused in a high profile murder case still awaits trial.

Amarillo plastic surgeon Thomas Michael Dixon remains jailed in connection with the death of Lubbock Doctor Joseph Sonnier.

Earlier this year, Dixon's alleged accomplice, David Shepard, pleaded guilty to the murder, saying Dixon hired him to carry out the crime.

Prosecutors need to determine whether they will seek the death penalty before Dixon can face trial.
