Company to donate to family of local fallen veteran

Posted: Updated:

Amarillo, TX - It has been almost a year since the tragic Midland train accident that killed four veterans, and now friends of one of the victims are asking the community for help.

Jessica and Joshua Weinland want area residents to send the family of U.S. Army Sergeant Joshua Michael, who was a Hereford native, notes of support.

The Weinlands teamed up with ProjectTreasure.com to honor Sergeant Michael and support his wife and two children. Project Treasure will donate $5 to the family for every note submitted online.

"You can send as many notes as you want,"said Project Treasure co-founder Jeff Haynes. "We want there to hopefully be thousands once this is said and done. It's amazing when someone receives a Project Treasure Box, what it does for them and we've seen how uplifting it can be. And then hopefully, we can provide some financial support at the same time and it works out well for everyone."

The company will accept notes until November 15, which is the one year anniversary of the Midland train accident. Project Treasure said it is completely free to submit notes of encouragement to the family.
