Daily fatality streak for Texas drivers goes on 13 years

At least one person every day for the past 13 years has died while traveling on Texas roads. Since November 2000, 45,032 people have been killed in driving accidents.

The Texas Department of Transportation breaks this into three categories: alcohol related deaths, fatalities caused by distracted driving, and deaths from not wearing a seatbelt.

When you look at the total number deaths, it's roughly around the amount of people that can fit in the Rangers Ball Park.

13,544 of those deaths, which is around the population Canyon, were alcohol related.

5,469 people, roughly the number of people living in Muleshoe, have died because they were not wearing seatbelts.

2,719 fatalities, or around the population of Canadian, were a result of distracted driving.

These numbers come from the Texas Department of Transportation which is urging drivers to stay safe on the roads as the holidays approach.
