Resource center offers helping hand to Amarillo's homeless

Amarillo, TX - Amarillo continues to battle homelessness throughout the community and as winter approaches, the Guyon Sanders Resource Center, once again, stepped up to help.

The center hosted its annual Winter Outreach Saturday where local agencies provided resources, services and information to many of our communities homeless residents.

With more than 46,000 walk-ins per year, the center said this type of outreach event is a huge part of fulfilling their mission. "The biggest goal today is to reach all the individuals that utilize the Guyon Sanders Resource Center and who are in Amarillo, that are either going through homelessness, or at risk of becoming homeless," said director of the Guyon Sanders Resource Center, Courtney Gagan.

"So that we can help them lead happy and productive lives." The Guyon Sanders Resource Center is also home to 2-1-1 Texas Panhandle, which assists in the resource and information referral to more then 6,000 callers every month.

Drivers in downtown Amarillo could soon be dealing with fewer one-way streets. It all has to do with the parking garages going up on Buchanan Street. Cars will need to exit right and left on 7th and 8th Avenues, and right now it's against city ordinance to turn left out of any parking garage in the city.
