Two arrested after high-speed chase ends in Potter County

Posted: Updated:

Two people have been arrested following a high-speed chase that ended just inside Potter County before noon Saturday.

DPS officials say the pursuit began in New Mexico after the 2009 Nissan Sport Utility Vehicle was involved in a collision with a Tucumcari, N. M. police car.

Texas troopers picked up the chase when it crossed the state lane. The fleeing Nissan began driving down the wrong side of I-40 and throwing items out the window. Officials attempted to spike the tires of the suspect car but were unsuccessful. Then, troopers shot out one of the driver's tires, bringing the chase to a stop.

The Nissan was found to be stolen out of California and the driver, 19-year-old Cornell Cooper Brown Jr., and one passenger, 19-year-old Brandy Lynn Daine, both from California, were arrested and booked into the Oldham County Jail. Two other passengers were not charged.
