Early tax filers in the area might see a one to two week delay in getting their tax refunds.
Local tax processor Jack Williams said some early filers might luck out if their return is processed during the IRS's testing period. "Even if they're not accepting returns until later, go ahead and get yourself in on time," said Williams. "Get it done, get in cue, and you may get lucky and get pulled out for testing. And you might beat all your friends by a couple of weeks."
Williams said the testing period is essential to the IRS's ability to fix problems before they create a giant back log. He said the one to two week delay could ultimately shorten the wait period for tax refunds in the long run.
