Local man behind bars after 7 hour standoff in Amarillo

More than 7 hours after a standoff in North Amarillo begins, one man is behind bars, Saturday morning.

Amarillo Police and the SWAT Team were called to the 7700block of River Road Friday night, after 34 year old Michael Fruit barricaded himself inside a house.

Fruit was wanted on a warrant out of Potter County for indecency with a child and a second degree felony.

After being recognized by an officer, he locked himself inside and refused to come out. Nearly 7 hours later, the SWAT Team was able to enter the house and found Fruit in the basement with a small child and a female.

He was taken into custody without incident and is now in the Potter County Jail.

No one was hurt during the standoff.
