Local employers looking to hire

Posted: Updated:

More employers in our area are looking to hire.

The Workforce Solutions Panhandle Group says they have seen an increase in employers signing up for job fairs.

They say many companies have a variety of positions available, but finding qualified employees seems to be the hardest part.

Scottco Human Resources director, Jeremiah Saiz, says many of the available jobs in our community require special training, which may be why there are more jobs than workers.

"There are jobs that are out there, finding the  people to fill them, that seems to be a little more difficult. There's a lot of things that go into being a qualified candidate such as professional licenses that the candidates have to keep up with," he told us.

Amarillo National Bank President Richard Ware also thinks Amarillo's low unemployment rate may also be a contributing factor.

"We've had a steady job market here. As jobs open up people come from the smaller towns and fill them so we are able to self select and keep at a steady level, as we have for the last ten years," Ware said.

To help fill some of these open positions, the Workforce Solutions Panhandle Group is hosting a job fair on Tuesday, October 8th.

Over 100 employers are expected to be there.

The event is at the Amarillo Civic Center in the North Exhibit Hall. It will run between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.
