Thousands in Amarillo 'think pink' as they Race for the Cure

Thousands of women, men, and children from around the Panhandle raced to the finished line Saturday as they helped race to find a cure for cancer.

Saturday morning was the 23rd Annual Susan G. Komen Greater Amarillo Race for the Cure.

The group has raised $90,000 of its $100,000 goal to help support breast cancer awareness, education, and research of the disease.

"It's an amazing thing, this money goes straight to help people here in our own community get the mammogram, the doctors appointments, the testing and the treatment that they need that they otherwise wouldn't be able to get," said Ashley Kelley, race co-chair.

Seventy five percent of the money raised from Saturday's race in Downtown Amarillo will stay local to help support the 26 counties of the Panhandle.
