Amarillo business raffling off Orange County Choppers bike

AMARILLO - A new Amarillo non-profit hopes to raise more than $7 million for our troops by raffling off a custom Orange County Choppers bike.

The bike was the spotlight of the "Celebration of Freedom" event at Sixth Street Saloon Sunday, but come November 23 it will in the national spotlight on the new season of Orange County Choppers.

"We want to sell 300,000 tickets at $25. So you can do the math there, it's something that can do a lot," Owner of Goody's World Famous Popcorn, Dave Goodwin said.

Goodwin says though the idea started out as a way for his business to help troops, the venture grew so big he created a nonprofit, Goody's Charitable Foundation. Goodwin called OCC on a whim when brainstorming ways to raise money for America Supports You Texas, an Amarillo organization that sends care packages to troops overseas.

"We wanted to think outside the box and I reached out to Orange County Choppers and they loved our story. So, we built the bike to raffle off to raise money so they wouldn't have that hard of a time to send packages over," Goodwin said. But not all the money will go "America Supports You Texas." Goodwin says his new nonprofit is open to partnering with any organization that helps troops, including the Iron Soldiers and the Vietnam Veterans of America.

Dozens of tickets were sold at the Celebration of Freedom today, but Goodwin hopes to sell many many more in Amarillo so the bike has a chance of staying here in the panhandle.
