Hundreds walk in support of fight to end Alzheimer's

More than $50,000 were raised in Amarillo Saturday to help one local organization fight back against a disease affecting more than five million Americans.

Saturday morning, some 1,200 people from around the area came out to support Saturday's Walk to End Alzheimer's.

The walk at Medi Park is hosted every year by the Alzheimer's Association, a national organization, but one with local ties to our community.

"It gives people an opportunity to know that we're here locally and know all the services that we offer but not only that the Alzheimer's Association offers but all that the other resources that are here locally within our community that can help someone that's going through this disease right now," said Tracy Sommers with Walk to End Alzheimer's.

The money raised will help fund research about the disease and well as go toward providing care for those suffering from Alzheimer's both here in the Panhandle and across the nation.
