The Valley Patriots overcame a game that was plagued by penalties and injuries, to hand the Happy Cowboys their first loss of the season by a 46-14 count.
The win moved Valley to 2-0 on the season. Ashton and Lane Barclay combined for five touchdowns to lead the Patriot offensive charge.
Ashton scored on runs of 4 and 2 yards, and Lane had touchdown runs of 40, 1, and 2 yards. Keeno Ferrel added a 1 yard scoring plunge, and Gus Santos kicked three extra points to round out the scoring for the Patriots.
The Patriots amassed 237 yards rushing, and Ketch Smith had 184 yards passing , for a whopping 421 total yards of offense. That compares to just 190 total yards for the Cowboys.The Patriot defense bent, but didn't break, as they only allowed the Cowboys to find the end zone twice on the evening.
Ashton Barclay led all defenders with 15 tackles. Ketch Smith and Gus Santos were also in double figures with tackle totals of 11 and 10 respectively, and Ketch had a key interception to spoil a Cowboy drive. Keeno Ferrel and Barrett Bland also had good defensive games with 8 tackles each, and Gustavo Alanis added 7 tackles, including 2 sacks.
The Patriots will be at home this Friday to take on the Nazareth Swifts in the annual Valley homecoming game. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:30, with some pregame homecoming activities including a meal, as well as the regular homecoming halftime festivities.
