A police officer in D.C. is among the people shot at the Washington Navy Yard Monday morning.

Authorities say the officer was shot near the room where a lone gunman has barricaded himself.

Police on scene say this is after the suspect shot ten people on the Navy Yard grounds.

Eight civilians were reportedly shot, along with the two police officers.

One is a D.C. Metro Police officer who was shot two times in the leg, police said.

The other officer worked at the base.

The shots were reportedly fired around 8:20 a.m. eastern time at the Naval Sea Systems Command Headquarters building, where about 3,000 people work.

A "shelter in place" order has been issued for Navy Yard personnel.

Construction is underway on Canyon's new aquatic park, which is still on schedule to open to the public on June 1st. The aquatic park is just a bunch of holes in the ground right now. But when the slides go up (by April 10th), people will start to see how close the project is to completion.
