Two DPS traffic stops result in drug seizure of more than $355K

The Labor Day weekend was a busy one for the Texas Department of Public Safety after two traffic stops ended with the seizure of more than $355,000 in drugs.

The first stop happened Saturday morning around eleven o'clock on I-40 near Bushland. Officers found more than three pounds of meth, nearly three ounces of heroin, 37 grams of oxycontin and a stolen gun - all totaling around $175,000. Three suspects, Jessica Garner of Torreon, New Mexico, Paris Castillo also of Torreon and Joseph Barboa of Albuquerque, were all booked into the Potter County Jail.

Then very early Sunday morning, DPS troopers seized five more pounds of methamphetamine during a routine traffic stop on I-40 in Carson County. It was just before one o'clock Sunday morning, when DPS stopped 28-year-old Daniela Gandarencinas of Los Colorado, Mexico. The trooper found four bundles of meth in the vehicle. The driver of the vehicle was arrested and booked into the Carson County Jail.

Construction is underway on Canyon's new aquatic park, which is still on schedule to open to the public on June 1st. The aquatic park is just a bunch of holes in the ground right now. But when the slides go up (by April 10th), people will start to see how close the project is to completion.
