ODESSA- Derrick Current was a husband and father of four, and last week he was struck by truck in the 2300 block of East 2nd street. He was transported to Medical Center Hospital where he later lost his life, leaving his family devastated.

"I got to the hospital, and he was hooked up to all of these machines." said Denee Current, Derrick Current's Wife.

It was around 9:45 p.m. on August 9th- when the Derrick was hit. The driver of the truck that hit Derrick that night fled the scene.

Christian Leon is the man who ran into Current, he turned himself in days after the incident, and was arrested for failure to stop and render aid.

Derrick and his family were celebrating his 33 birthday just blocks away from where the accident happened. His wife says he was going to find a friend who was lost but he never returned.

"It was about nine O clock the last I saw him, and I was putting the candles on the birthday cake." said Denee.

The Current family is mourning the loss of Derrick and said they are not ready to forgive the man who took his life.

"He's the man who ruined my life, he ruined my kids life, he took my husband, he took the father of my children" said Denee.

Derrick's wife tells us she's doing everything she can to support their four children but with school right around the corner, she's asking the community can help.

"I don't even know what I am going to do about school because I was going to use my paycheck this Friday to go take the kids to buy school supplies and school clothes but now I cant now I have to use that money for a funeral." said Denee.

If you would like to help the current family there will be a donation food dinner for Derrick
this Saturday at 3109 Andrews Highway starting at 10 a.m. and lasting until all the food is gone. Donation plates will start at 5 dollars.
