Wreck leaves five TEXAS cast members dead

Amarillo, TX - A wreck in Moore County has claimed the lives of five cast members from the musical, TEXAS.

The Texas Department of Public Safety tells us at around 11:30 Monday night six cast members were traveling west on FM 119 and attempting to turn south onto us 287, just two miles north of Dumas.

The vehicle reportedly pulled out into the path of a southbound semi trailer which resulted in the crash.

According to DPS Troopers on the scene, alcohol may have been a factor in the accident.

DPS has identified the victims as Clinton Diaz of Amarillo, Andrew Duncan of Wichita Falls, Eric Harrison of Fort Worth, Julian Arredondo of Haltom, and Amanda Starz of Timonium, MD.

Cast member Timothy Johnson of Portland, Oregon was airlifted to Northwest Texas Hospital in critical condition.

The foundation will be holding a meeting Tuesday afternoon with the company to decide what will happen the rest of the week.

"The TEXAS musical family has suffered a tragic loss. The Texas Panhandle Heritage Foundation is devastated and our heart goes out to the families of these young loved members of our TEXAS family," says executive director Kris Miller, Texas Panhandle Heritage Foundation.

As a result, the Tuesday night scheduled performance has been canceled.

Construction is underway on Canyon's new aquatic park, which is still on schedule to open to the public on June 1st. The aquatic park is just a bunch of holes in the ground right now. But when the slides go up (by April 10th), people will start to see how close the project is to completion.
