Officer in unmarked car involved in I-27 wreck

Amarillo, TX - What would have been a routine traffic stop turned into a major wreck on Interstate 27 Monday morning.

Police say just before 8:00, an officer driving an unmarked unit spotted a speeding motorist traveling north, driving a late-model black Ford F-150 pick-up.

After the officer turned on his emergency lights to pull the truck over, the pick-up exited the highway on the Moss Street off-ramp.

When the officer changed lanes to follow, he was struck by another car, causing both vehicles to spin out into the highway.

Both the officer and the driver of the other car in the collision sustained minor injuries.

The speeding motorist did not remain at the scene and was not located.
