Suspect in custody for fatal shooting

Amarillo, Texas - After asking for the community's help, Amarillo police now have a suspect in custody following a July homicide.

Police now have a suspect more than a week after the fatal shooting on July 28th of Alfredo Ruben Cueto.

A murder warrant was issued for 27 year-old Humberto De La Paz Hernandez yesterday in connection with Cueto's death. Police were able to locate a pickup truck we featured on NewsChannel 10 that was spotted near the scene of the crime, which they say helped lead to an arrest.

"So we found that at a home on the North side of Amarillo, and then through the course of a little bit further investigation after finding that truck, we were able to determine who the suspect in our homicide was. The detectives got everything together, and we were able to get a murder warrant," Lt. Erick Bohannan, Special Crimes Unit said.

Police were called to the 4400 block of Amarillo Blvd. July 28th on reports of shots fired in the area. That is where officers found Cueto with gun shot wounds to his upper body. He was taken to the hospital where he later died.

According to police, Hernandez was already in the Randall County jail on traffic violations when he was served with the murder warrant.
