Two young men are dead after the vehicle they were driving flipped over and caught on fire Saturday evening just before 8:00 p.m.

It happened near the intersection of McCormick Road and Mescalero. Officials with the Texas Department of Safety say the two were driving east on McCormick, going very fast, when they crossed railroad tracks and lost control.

The car veered off the roadway, went into a ditch where it hit a drainage culvert before flipping over and catching fire.

Both the driver, 26-year-old Kristopher Shoemaker of Canyon, and the passenger 24-year-old Coulten Miller of Canyon were pronounced dead on the scene.

Neither Shoemaker nor Miller was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the accident.
