Jury reaches verdict in American Quarter Horse Association Trial

Posted: Updated:

AMARILLO - The American Quarter Horse Association says they will continue to fight for their rights after a jury verdict doesn't go their way.

Tuesday a jury found the AQHA has violated anti-trust laws by barring cloned horses from their association.

Nancy Stone, an attorney for the plaintiffs, who filed the suite in 2012, tells us no damages will be awarded but they still consider today's outcome to be a victory. "None the less, it's a victory for the plaintiffs because with the jury verdict we believe that the court will rule favorably in connection with injunction relief and order that AQHA register the clones and their offspring," she said.

Don Treadway, The executive president of the American Quarter Horse Association says they plan to move forward and fight for the right's of their members. "What we now have now is a verdict. Not a order to register clones," Treadway said in an afternoon press conference. "We are meeting with our legal council and the AQHA leadership team, that being the officers of the American Quarter Horse Association regarding our appeal options," he added.

Both the AQHA and the plaintiff's attorneys say they will continue to work on this case. The decision wether to allow cloned horses to register with the association will come at a later date.
