Texans can monitor government more closely

Posted: Updated:

Texas residents can now monitor their local, county and state governments more closely.

In the past, each government, such as; city council, school districts or county commissioners court were not allowed to discuss government business away from official meetings.

But as of September 1st, they can do so through an Internet message board.

The public will have a right to read what's being posted.

Also starting September 1st, text messages, emails and other electronic messaging, from either public or private accounts, between elected officials will officially be part of public records.

Remember that to get this information, all you have to do is write a letter to a government body requesting it.

There are a few exceptions for what's available but most government documents will be given to you.

Depending on the request and the governmental body, you may have to pay a fee.
