Amarillo, TX - A Capital Murder indictment has been handed down for an area man accused in the death of a 10 month-old child.

The Hansford County grand jury returned the indictment Tuesday, charging former Pampa resident Andrew Johnson with Capital Murder.

The indictment claims Johnson was responsible for the beating death of Jax Covalt, who died at the Hansford County Hospital in April from blunt force trauma.

Johnson is being held in the Hutchinson County jail on one million dollars bond. If convicted, he faces up to life in prison or the death penalty.
