Possible job consolidation for postal workers in Amarillo

Posted: Updated:

To keep up with the changing times, many post offices have had to close down or consolidate jobs. Right here in Amarillo, the postal service is thinking of doing just that.

Recent discussion has the United States Postal Service thinking about moving some jobs from Amarillo to Lubbock in order to save some money.

In a statement from the U.S. Postal Service they say "The Postal Service must realign its network to match its resources with mail volume. Consolidating some postal operations and placing our people where we need them makes logical business sense given the economic realities."

Currently, the Postal Service is conducting a mail processing study to see if consolidation is necessary. Jobs that may be impacted as a result of possible consolidation in mail handlers, clerks and machine technicians.

Before a final decision is made, the Postal Service says there will be a community meeting later this year to hear from folks in our area.
