Unclaimed money returned to Texans

Texas' Comptroller has reached a major milestone when it comes to returning unclaimed property to Texans.

Susan Combs announced today she has returned $1 billion in unclaimed property since she took office in 2007.

That total number was reached as she presented $2,009.64 to an Austin firefighter.

Combs says it is the largest sum of money ever returned by a Texas Comptroller.

Unclaimed property includes forgotten utility deposits, payroll checks, dormant bank accounts and more.

There is no statute of limitations on when owners can file a claim to receive the money.

To search for unclaimed property, and begin the claims process, you can call 1 (800) 654-3463, or visit www.ClaimItTexas.org.
