Amarillo, TX - Texas ranks as one of the top states when it comes to the safety of bridges.
The Transportation for America says they are in good shape compared to other states.
TxDOT has considerably increased its road work over the past few years.
Back in 2011 the state had 1,662 structurally deficient bridges.
That number has fallen to nearly 1,337, which is a drop of 19.5 percent.
No other state showed that much of an improvement.
There are currently three bridges in Amarillo that are considered to be structurally deficient.
The bridge at I40 and Ross, I40 and Arthur and 34th and Fillmore.
TxDOT says just because a bridge's frame is structurally deficient, it doesn't mean it's unsafe for drivers.
We're told any bridge that is in bad condition will be shut down and repaired.
Bridges are inspected once every 24 months to make sure they are safe.
