Whether it was pink, yellow, blue or green, those walking or running in Amarillo's first ever Color RunTM this morning didn't get out without getting a little messy.

More than 12,000 people from around the area turned out for the "Happiest 5K on the Planet" that began at eight o'clock Saturday morning. Runners and walkers alike were doused in various colors at checkpoints throughout the race, leaving everyone looking like rainbow. All while promoting health, fitness and even raising a little money for the Laura W. Bush Institute for Women's Health.

"It tells everybody who we are and we have our mission out there and what we do so there's a lot of exposure and we raise a little bit of money so we can develop some research on women's health," said Laura Street, Executive Director of the Laura W. Bush Institute for Women's Health. "So, all the way around it's a great event for us to have."

"First time to do a Color Run, pretty awesome," said Color Runner Jacob Mitchell. "Finished a lot faster than I ever thought I would be, going to be doing a lot more 5K's. Good benefits for all the people that are here and are still going for the last two hours, going strong."

Last year, some 600,000 people ran in color runs all over the U.S.  But this year, organizers hope to have more than one million participants in races in more than 100 U.S. cities and 30 countries.
