Roberts County, TX - A pilot has died in a plane crash early Tuesday morning in Roberts County, north of Pampa.

The small plane, a Light Sport Alpha Trainer, attempted an emergency landing around 2:00 Tuesday morning but ended up crashing due to rough terrain.

The pilot, Donald Sharp of Greenfield, Indiana died at the scene and his body has been taken to Lubbock for an autopsy.

The condition of his co-pilot, Zachary Jenkins of Indianapolis, Indiana is unknown but he was awake and speaking before being airlifted to Northwest Texas Hospital.

DPS Trooper Chris Ray says Jenkins thought they had enough fuel to make the route.

The plane went down on the Mesa Vista Ranch in extremely rough terrain, which is property owned by billionaire T. Boone Pickens.

Since it is private land, NewsChannel 10 was unable to get closer to the site of the crash.

The two men were from Indiana and were traveling to Borger to visit relatives.
