Amarillo roofs take a beating and boost business

Posted: Updated:

Amarillo, Texas - Homeowners are also keeping roofing companies busy after Tuesday's hail storm.

Not only has the hail taken it's toll on windows and cars, but also many Amarillo roof tops. Calls to roofing companies have been constantly coming in since the early morning.

Bob Conley didn't expect this kind of damage from the storm.

"Hartman roofing came out and they already said that we've had damage done to our roof and all, and then losing the skylight, and then we've had damage done to our aluminum siding," Conley says.

But it wasn't just his home that was damaged, all of his surrounding neighbors homes were, too.

"But this one here just stayed really strong all the way. And so, we're paying for it now," Conley says.

Conley's neighborhood was just one of the stops a crew from Hartman Roofing & Exterior were working. Jay Hedrick with Hartman tells us his company alone will see 200 homes today.

"The rest of this week is going to be very hectic. Just trying to get everybody in the drive because I know we're expecting more rain and things like that. After that we have to deal with damage assessments and insurance claims, and kind of go forward from there," Hedrick says.

Insurance agencies say their phones have been ringing just as much. But it's important for homeowners to remember one thing.

"It's going to take awhile to get to everybody, have their houses looked at, adjusted and repairs done. It may take two months to finish everything that needs to be taken care of because there's going to be thousands of claims in Amarillo," Alice Brooks, owner of Alice Brooks Insurance Agency says.

Hedrick also agrees. It will be awhile before the entire city is repaired.

"It's going to take a long time to get all this stuff done here and get everything back to the way it was before the storm," Hedrick says.

If your house did suffer damage, you should file a claim as soon as possible with your insurance company.
