Gay youth now allowed in Boy Scouts

After over a century of being banned, gay youth are now allowed to be a part of the Boy Scouts. But gay adult leaders and parents are still not permitted to participate.

More than 1,000 voting members of the group's national council took part in Thursday's historic decision; 61% voted in favor.

More than 1.5 million signatures were collected in support of the anti-gay ban. The Golden Spread Council Boy Scouts says "89% of all youth in the Golden Spread Council are 15 or younger; It is therefore unlikely that this new membership standard will impact much in the way scouting is delivered in our area."

A NewsChannel 10 Facebook poll conducted Thursday reflects 68% of the people agree with allowing gay youth, the rest are against.

Current membership standards will remain in place until changes take effect beginning of next year.
