Homer's Backyard Ball raises money for children's charities

The area's largest outdoor Texas music festival and charity event kicked off Saturday morning in Amarillo, and the party was still going on late Saturday night.

It's the 16th year for Homer's Backyard Ball and the day long bash features eight different Texas country bands, a barbecue cook off, games and plenty of other activities. The event has grown to be bigger than ever which organizers say is great news, because all of the money raised goes to benefit children's charities including Make-A-Wish of North Texas and the Khiva Shriners of Amarillo.

"It allows us to do updates to our buildings, our facilities so that we can raise money and send our children to the hospitals," Arcadio Rivera with Homer's Backyard Ball. "We have a transportation fund that we use, so there's not out of pocket expense to families. Their meals, their flights, their hotels, any necessities, there's no money out of their pockets so we can help these children."
