Feeding families in need was the mission of many people all across Amarillo Saturday, as bag and bags of food were collected and donated to the High Plains Food Bank.
Saturday, local letter carriers took double duty on their normal routes around Amarillo and spent the day picking up bags of non-perishable food items donated by citizens. The objective was to "Fill A Bag" to help feed families in need.
Broc Carter, Director of Communications for the food bank said giving was way down in the month of April compared to their numbers from January, and it's these events that help them replenish their shelves before the summer season when the need typically increases.
Last year, the food bank collected 65,000 pounds of food through this drive and Carter said they're hoping they collected even more than that Saturday.
