West residents honor first firefighter at Wednesday's funeral service

Hundreds of people lined up for the first funeral service in West Wednesday afternoon. They paid their respects to Kenneth "Luckey" Harris Jr., who lived in West. Harris was a Dallas Fire and Rescue veteran was the first firefighter to be pronounced dead in the West Fertilizer Explosion.

His funeral service was held at St. Mary's Catholic of the Assumption Church in West with Reverend John Rambeau officiating.

The 52-year old Harris was born in Killeen to Kenneth Luckey Harris, Sr. and Scottie Lou Vardiman Harris. He attended Crawford High School and McLennan Community College.

He graduated from Dallas Fire Academy and served as a firefighter there for nearly 31 years, attaining the rank of captain. He was a member of High Point Church in Waco and the Dallas Firefighters Association, Local 58.

He leaves behind his wife, Holly and three adult sons.
