Worldwide recall of millions of vehicles

Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Mazda, and GM are being forced to recall around 3.4 million vehicles.

This comes after Japan based supplier, Takata Corporation, announced Thursday morning that the affected cars may have faulty air bags.

The supplier says the passenger airbag inflators may deploy with too much pressure, causing the inflator casing to rupture and could potentially result in injury.

This is Takata's biggest recall in almost two decades.

Toyota has the biggest recall of around 1.7 million vehicles, which causes another blow to their reputation.

Models recalled in the U.S.:

Toyota: Corolla, Corolla Matrix, Sequoia, and Tundra, and Lexus SC 430 models manufactured from 2001-2003

Honda: 2001-2003 Civics, 2002-2003 CR-Vs, 2002 Odyssey vehicles

Nissan: Maximas, Pathfinders, Sentras, Infiniti I35s and Infiniti Qx4s from 2001-2003

Mazda: 2003 and 2004 Mazda6 sedans and 2004 Mazda Rx-8

GM: 2003 Pontiac Vibe

The automakers have reported the problem to the Transport Ministry in Japan, and will be reporting other recalls later in the day in other regions.
