High-speed chase beginning in Texas ends near Portales, NM

Two people are arrested after leading law enforcement on a high-speed chase that began in Texas and finally ended just before two o'clock Sunday morning just north of Portales, NM.

The Canyon Police Department first detected the vehicle going 120 miles per hour near Umbarger. After engaging in a chase, other agencies in Hereford, Bovina, Farwell and the Parmer County Sheriff's Office were notified and also engaged in the chase. The pursuit entered New Mexico on State Road 202 in northeastern Roosevelt County. New Mexico State Police deployed tire deflation devices, bringing the chase to an end.

The driver of the car, 24-year-old Christopher Michael Sharp, was arrested and charged with Aggravated Fleeing a Law Enforcement Officer. The passenger, 21-year-old Toni Heather Rodriguez was charged with Accessory to Aggravated Fleeing a Law Enforcement Officer. Both were booked into the Roosevelt County Detention Center.

    Amarillo Police are looking for three suspects who are accused of stabbing a man early Sunday morning. They say the victim was at the Sanborn park around 2:30 a.m. when he was approached by the suspects. Officials say the victim was stabbed twice in the abdomen and was transported to the hospital.
