2 killed in West Texas glider accident identified

LITTLEFIELD, Texas (AP) - The two people who died in a glider accident in West Texas have been identified as a 79-year-old man and a 13-year-old boy described as a budding aviator.

The manager of the Littlefield airport tells the Lubbock Avalanche-Journal that Eddie Hoglan owned the Alexander Schleicher K-7 and was in the craft with teenager Taylor Brown.

The AJ reports Tuesday that Hoglan was a Plainview resident and Brown lived in Littlefield, about 35 miles northwest of Lubbock. Authorities say a wing snapped from the craft shortly after it detached from the plane towing it Saturday.

Manager Tom Brown, the grandfather of Taylor Brown, says Hoglan and the teen frequently flew the glider together. He says his grandson "just loved to fly."

Federal authorities are continuing to investigate the wreck.
