Silver Alert In NM

Posted: Updated:

Santa Fe, New Mexico - New Mexico is stepping up their efforts to help locate the missing elderly.

Governor Susana Martinez has signed a law to create a statewide "Silver Alert".

What that will do is notify law enforcement agencies, the news media and others when a person 50 years or older suffering from Alzheimer's, dementia, or a brain injury goes missing.

Right now about 30 other states, including Texas and Oklahoma, operate similar programs modeled after the "amber alert" system.

This program will take effect in July.
