Officials spike tires to end high-speed chase in Amarillo

Posted: Updated:

A high-speed chase comes to a end just outside of Amarillo Sunday afternoon after officers chasing the man spiked the car's tires.

Officials say the man, driving a Dodge pickup, was originally wanted for theft in Tucumcari, NM. Oldham County officials located the man and when he refused to stop, they began the chase around 1:30 Sunday afternoon.  Officers followed the man from Vega to Amarillo where Amarillo police and DPS troopers got in on the chase.

Finally, they spiked the man's tires causing him to wreck at the intersection of Eighth and F Ave. just east of Amarillo. That ended the chase about two o'clock, just 30 minutes after it began. The wanted driver did not suffer any injuries but was taken to a local hospital as a precaution. After being cleared, the man was arrested.
