Texas has most minimum-wage workers in nation

Texas has the most minimum wage workers in the nation.

New data from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics 452,000 Texans made $7.25 or less in 2012.

This accounts for nearly 13 percent of all such workers across the country.

More than half of them were employed in the leisure and hospitality industry, largely in restaurants and other food services.

But tips supplement many of their hourly wages.

The Federal Reserve Bank of Texas says our state leads the nation because we are the biggest job creator in the country.

Data shows that one-third of minimum wage workers nationally were teens, and about 45 percent were 25 or older.

The last minimum-wage increase took place in 2009.
