Local women to hold bone marrow drive for Dallas boy

Borger, Texas - After seeing a young Dallas boy's story on Facebook, an area woman is doing all she can to help save his life.

Debbie Henderson is a pediatric nurse and has soft spot in her heart for children. But after seeing 6 year-old Aiden Peterson's story, she knew she had to do more.

This is the second time Aiden has been diagnosed with leukemia. He now has a new and more aggressive form causing him to need a bone marrow transplant.

There is a one in a 1,000 chance of finding a genetic match for Aiden. Debbie Henderson is determined to help find that match even though she's never met little Aiden.

"We're trying to up the odds. So, the more people that register, hopefully the more people we can find donors for," Henderson says.

She is holding a bone marrow drive this weekend at the Borger Fire Department.

We asked Debbie why help this boy she's never met.

"It could be my grandchild, or your child. If your baby needed help, I would be the first to jump out and help them. That's just who I am," Henderson says.

Aiden's mother, who is currently at the hospital with him as he undergoes a new chemotherapy treatment, says Debbie's generosity is incredible.

"I mean I've never heard of Borger, Texas until last week, and I don't even know that I've ever been to Amarillo. But I just think that it's incredible what people are willing to do to help a stranger, and I think that that's really the bigger picture here," Candice Gaudet, Aiden's mother says.

The event will run from noon to 5 on March 2nd. If you can't make it out to the event, you can order a swab kit free from www.getswabbed.org
