Restaurant and club closes for the first time due to blizzard

Amarillo, Texas - It's the first time in 33 years Cattleman's cafe on historic Route 66 has closed.

Jeanie Campbell has owned the Cattleman's Cafe and Club for three decades. The cafe is open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. But yesterday's blizzard changed that. It was the first time the restaurant and club has been closed since Campbell bought it in 1980.

None of her staff were able to make it during the blizzard, so she did what she thought was best, and closed the doors.

But she also says she ran into a small problem while doing so. In 33 years, they've never locked the door or turned the lights off.

"I just realized we didn't have a key. I've never had to use it. So, just didn't have a key. But we managed to get the employees out and locked from the inside, went out through the other side," Jeanie Campbell, Cattleman's Cafe and Club owner says.

Campbell's daughter who helps her run the cafe says her mom is there seven day's a week. She was worried when she had to make the decision to close because of the snow.

Cattleman's will be back to 24 hours a day starting Wednesday at 6 a.m.
