Bomb threat at Perryton school

Posted: Updated:

Perryton, Texas - An area junior high school was evacuated after a bomb threat was made. Suspects are now in custody for making the threat that shut down Perryton Junior High School Thursday morning.

School officials tell us just before 7:30 Thursday a phone call came in here to the Perryton Junior High School claiming there was a bomb inside the building.

Ochiltree Sheriffs along with city police, state troopers and even Texas Parks and Wildlife were called in to sweep the school for any bombs. Sheriff Terry Bouchard says a complete sweep of the building was done and nothing was found. During that time officials were able to trace the call back to a phone out of San Angelo.

The individuals who made the call have been taken into custody. Sheriff Bouchard tells us these individuals are former Perryton ISD students.

"juveniles are handled a little differently. They're kept in the juvenile justice system. This could be a TYC matter. It could commit them to the juvenile correctional facility or could be a type of probation in this matter," Sheriff Bouchard says.

Sheriff Bouchard says this will have serious ramifications for those students involved. Today's threat was not taken lightly, and all agencies say they were well prepared for it.

Bomb threats to a school are considered terroristic and are considered a 3rd degree felony.
