United keeps up with growing demands

Posted: Updated:

Many local businesses are extending hours to keep up with the growing demands of the community.

Area residents who have manufacturing, law enforcement, and medical jobs are just some of the people working late or overnight hours in Amarillo. This increasing demand was a deciding factor for United Supermarkets to stay open 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

The United at 45th and Bell will start this new schedule on February 3rd, Super Bowl Sunday. They began researching back in April and receiving customer feedback to better meet the needs of the community.

United Supermarkets Regional Vice President Greg Ammons says, "These are some of the requests that were coming from our guests. So we just looked for another avenue of how we can we do that. And so we can't really do all of our stores that way. So we tried to pick some certain locations. This specific location come up too mainly through the drive-through pharmacy. Because on the research that we did said, if you are going to open up 24 hours you really should have a drive through pharmacy available. "

For now this is the only United that will be open 24 hours in the panhandle. It will include a pharmacist overnight to give you advice and have your prescriptions filled.

There will also be security at night, personnel to escort you out, and a manager on duty during these overnight hours for safety.
